easiest cinnamon recipe ever

hey friends, I can’t say that I am a baker or a chef by choice. I cook because people in my home need to eat. And while we do enjoy the food I make [because it is yummy], I don’t spend hours preparing gorgeous meals and I am definitely not the kind of mom who always has something in the oven… even if I aspire to that some day. It is not me today.

I am a lover of good food, yes, but also a lover of easy food to make. Now, if you are a chef, or someone that enjoys spending hours every evening whipping up something amazing for your family, this may not be the post for you 😉 because I know that those two words [good + easy] don’t usually go together when talking about food. I know the science behind food… The longer something takes to make, the better it will taste, I get that. But I have to tell ya, these rolls are so yummy and they are so easy to make as well that they have made it permanently on my list of meals to make.

So let’s talk recipe!

For the dough you will need:

  • 1 cup of milk

  • 1 tablespoon yeast

  • 1 egg

  • 3 tablespoon softened butter

  • 2 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 3 cups of flour

For the filling and topping you will need:

  • 1/2 a stick of butter melted

  • 3/4 cup of sugar

  • 1 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon

For the topping:

  • 3/4 stick of butter or you can use cream cheese

  • 2-3 cups powdered sugar or more

  • 2 tablespoon milk or more

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • pinch of salt

Instructions:

Mix together warm milk and yeast. Making sure the milk is just right for the yeast to dissolve.

Once the yeast has bloomed, add in sugar, salt, the softened butter, and the egg. Mix well and then add the flour. adding one cup at time and mixing each in.

Mix until the dough feels tacky to the touch and let sit covered for 45 minutes to rise. best if placed in a warmer spot in your kitchen.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Roll out your dough on a pastry cloth or counter with flour. Once the dough is rolled out roughly in a rectangle shape, melt your 1/2 stick of butter and brush it onto the dough layer. Spread the brown sugar and cinnamon over the buttered layer. optional- add in pieces of cut apple, peach, berries, pear, etc]

Then starting at one of the long sides of your shape, start rolling the dough. Cut the cinnamon rolls out using a serrated knife. Bread knife works great! then place them on your pan or skillet [be sure to have either paper down or an oiled surface so they don’t stick].

Let sit again for about 30 minutes or more to rise.

While those are sitting you can mix together your topping. simply add all the ingredients together and mix until all of the powdered sugar is mixed in and it all looks smooth.

Bake your rolls in the oven for 12 minutes. I check mine at about 10 minutes to be sure they aren’t going to over cook. Because no one likes an overcooked cinnamon roll!

Once they come out, you can Immediately top with the frosting you made or wait just a bit for them to cool. I prefer to wait a bit and then add the topping. It seems to stay on top better that way.

Serve up and savor each bite!

Don’t forget to save to your Pinterest board for later! Enjoy baking this season, friends!
